Half-Marathon: Day 2

day2

2nd Run -June 14, 2012:

Weight: 266 lbs
Run: 26.5 minutes
Distance: 2.02 miles
Terrain: Hilly
Weather: Gorgeous and Sunny (72 degrees)

Today was run number two. I was a little sore when I woke up so I thought for sure that my time was going to be a little worse than yesterday. I did the same route, but shaved off about 90 seconds. I’ll take it!

It’s so hard to not remind myself that I’m running while I’m running. If I could zone out for a while I think I wouldn’t hate it as much. So if anyone has any suggestions for doing that, please pass them on.

I remember that about halfway through my last training, when we were up to 6 miles for our long run that week, I was reflecting back on a time where one or two miles seemed like an eternity. I wish I was at that point again. If there’s one thing I learned from the last time, it’s that you can lose what you gain very quickly if you don’t stay on it. I also think that at some point during my last training, I learned how to run and that made it way easier. I can already tell a difference this time as my breathing needs work, but my shins don’t hurt like when I started the last time. Stretching after my run has been key as well. Now if I can just get this belly to disappear, I won’t have sore ribs from it bouncing all over the place when I run.

So send me some tips on how to not think about running when I’m running. Anyone?

Tomorrow is a rest day but I’ll try to post. Back at it Saturday on my first group run with the team.

As always, if you’d like to donate to the Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation and help me reach my goal, use the link below. It is 100% tax deductible. Thanks all!

Half-Marathon: Round 2

1st Run - June 13, 2012

1st Run -June 13, 2012:

Weight: 266 lbs
Run: 30 minutes
Distance: 2.02 miles
Terrain: Hilly
Weather: Gorgeous and Sunny (72 degrees)

Well, here I go again. It was almost two years ago that I started training for my first half-marathon. I “trained” over the course of about three months and went out to Vegas in Dec 2010. I finished but that was about it. I don’t want to take away from the accomplishment, but I didn’t train like I should’ve. I only did the runs on Wednesday and Saturday with the group and lacked the discipline to run on my own the other days. It took me three hours to finish, but I will say that I did take my time and really enjoyed the experience of the race that day. I lost 30 lbs from the training and that was nice too. But this time I want it to be different.

This time I want to do all of my training. I want to eat right long after the race is over. I want to change my lifestyle. I lost my dad just over four years ago and it was the hardest thing I ever had to go through. My son, my first-born, will be 1 in a couple of weeks. I want to start living a life that will help me be around for him as long as I can.

There is a quote that I read the last time I did this and it really spoke to me. Since I’m literally starting over from scratch, I think it’s appropriate to share it again:

“The miracle isn’t that I finished. The miracle is that I had the courage to start.” - John Bingham

So this time I’m going to put it all out there. I’m going to try and update this blog after every run. If you have questions or comments or words of encouragement or you have a sweet burn that you wish to unload, please post them. Some days will be longer posts than others, but I really want to be held accountable. Because I know that if I can do it, anyone can. I eat fried foods  and sweets like most people drink water. I sit around on the couch or bed all day and get little to no exercise most weeks other than a round of golf here and there…driving a cart of course.

So join me in this journey, I can use the motivation of knowing that people are following along and behind me. I should also let you know that, like last time, I am running this race as a part of “Team Challenge”. I will be raising money for the Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation of America. If you don’t know what those diseases are, look them up. If you do know, you also know how important it is to find a cure. If you would like to help me in my fund raising efforts, use this link:

Thanks everyone, here we go again…

My First Meme

Internet Memes seem to be all the rage right now. So just to show I'm up with the times, and using my six-month old son Dean as the inspiration, here's my first meme:

dean_meme

I wasn't sure what the caption should be for the bottom pic. You could go with any of these:

  • "Dean Sneed: Turning Your World Upside Down Since 2011"
  • Sometimes you have to change your view.
  • When the world turns on you, you have to crawl out.
  • Baby Einstein products sure are lightweight.
  • He's got the weight of the world on his shoulders.

Ok, hope you enjoyed it, and hope I have more for you soon. Thanks for stopping by. Hope to see you out there.
